Presidency Message

My husband and I were gone most of the last part of December. First we went to a grandson's baptism in Wisconsin, then spent time with our three daughters and their families in Utah for Christmas, then went with a couple of our daughters families on a family outing. After all of this traveling I began to feel a bit homesick and just wanted to be home- to be in familiar surroundings.
At times in the past I have felt this longing for  home when things have not been going so well, or when I've felt displaced and alone for some reason. Sometimes, I've felt this longing for home for no particular reason and have come to believe that at times all of us feel this longing. I have come to believe that maybe it is more of a spiritual longing for our heavenly home and our Heavenly Father . We do not belong here. We are eternal beings who existed before this life and are merely passing through mortality to be tested and to gain experience. We are headed for an eternal destiny.  I think we can feel the gravity of life at times- sometimes it is just plain difficult .
However we must remember that the Lord is always mindful of us and is there to help us weather the difficult times.
I love this quote mentioned in a talk by Elder Jeffrey R. Holland, "Come Unto Me", Ensign, Apr.1998, 16-23 . "President George Q. cannon said: "No matter how serious the trial, how deep the distress, how great the affliction, [God] will never desert us. He never has, and He never will. He cannot do it. It is not His character. He is an unchangeable being; the same yesterday, the same today, and He will be the same throughout the eternal ages to come. We have found that God. We have make Him our friend, by obeying His Gospel; and He will stand by us. We may pass through the fiery furnace; we may pass through deep waters; but we shall not be consumed  nor overwhelmed. We shall emerge from all these trials and difficulties the better and purer for them, if only we trust in our god and keep His commandments."
As we embark upon another year may we always remember our Heavenly  Father and turn to Him, and trust Him, and keep His commandments, so eventually we will be prepared to return to our heavenly home.  Love, Sister Ure
